How to dress your home with art

Art is one of my favourite decorative items I love using to style a home. It brings in colour, character and texture into a space. It is as transformative as paint or wallpaper. It is easy to install and affordable to put together.

Here are four ways of display art in your space

  1. Behind a sofa or bedhead

These two spaces are the perfect spot to display art works as a gallery wall or as a set of two or three. The grouping of artworks creates the illusion that the living room space is wider than it looks. It also helps add colour and personality to the plain sofa or bed setting. Remember to make sure there is 20-30cm distance from the top of the bedhead or sofa to the base of the art frames.

2. On a shelf or picture ledge

This is a great place to add height to your shelfie or shelves without a need to drill a hole into the wall. You can lean the art against the wall or blue tack it into the shelves for stability. This method allows for flexibility if you enjoy changing your art pieces frequently. A grouping of 2 art works can make the shelf look longer and is visually more exciting.

3. On the kitchen countertop

A fun way to colour in the kitchen is using art prints related to cooking. You can lean it against the backsplash just like how you will with a chopping board. I will recommend going for a contrasting frame colour to your backsplash for more texture.

4. Leaning it on the floor

If you are not ready to hang your art pieces but want to get a sense if they work in your space a good way is to lean them against your wall around the furniture pieces you have. This is a good time to see if the matting board around your art is too small or if you want the entire artwork to be in the frame.

I hope you found the tips useful and I have a super exciting news to share. My art print collection is now LIVE! It is a collection of pieces I have designed and curated based on quotes, colours and graphics I believe will add some fun into your empty walls. With each digital art print purchase, you will get a BONUS free “how to style a gallery wall guide”, an instruction sheet and 4 scalable high resolution files. All the prints will fit IKEA frames and I have partnered with The Blush Sparkle to print, frame and deliver the art prints to your door step.

Let me know what you think about the collection and I cannot wait to see them in your homes. For more home styling tips, remember to subscribe to my mailing list.
