The best indoor plants with tumbleweed plants

TOP 5 DECOR ITEMS FROM DAISO (1).png

I am so excited to have Denise from Tumbleweed Plants share insights on building your own plants collection for your home. This week's video Denise shares what are the top 3 indoor plants to buy, the type of pots to use and how often you should water them. I have witnessed my clients mastering the same technique she taught and their plants collection look amazing. Plants require patience and loving your plants like a family member will enable it to grow well and healthy.

The top 3 highly recommended indoor plants are:

1. Sansevieria

Sansevieria is also known as snake plant. They do well in bathrooms where the humidity tends to be much higher. You can find them tall or short, with round, flat or concave leaves. Always remember that the soil has to be completely dry before thoroughly watering again.

2. Satin Pothos (it reminds me of the money plant but prettier)

Satin pothos is an easy to grow indoor plant which shows its best leaf colour when you keep it in bright, indirect light. It does not do well in soggy soil and cold drafts from air conditioner. Place this plant on a book shelf as it drapes down beautifully as it grows.

3. Aglaonema

Aglaonema are slow-growing, attractive indoor plants and they come in different variation from dark green to silver, and even hints of red and pinks. They do not like a full sun, so it is perfect for indoor. Mist it daily and you will be rewarded with a long-lasting stable houseplant that will not outgrow its pot anytime soon. A great spot to place this plant is on your television console to bring in more colour to the space.

The top 2 hanging plants I love the most:

1. Philodendron Micans

Philodendron micans are the perfect house hanging plants for small places. They are known for their velvety, heart-shaped leaves that never grow beyond 3" in width. Find a spot near to a window where the sun ray's never hit the leaves. When the plant starts showing droopy leaves, it means that it is not getting enough water or it is getting too much water. But leaves recover quickly when you correct the watering schedule.

2. Boston Fern

Boston fern needs a cool place with high humidity and indirect sunlight. Make sure that the fern's soil remains damp as dry soil is the number one reason that Boston fern dies. Check the soil daily and make sure to give it some water if the soil feels at all dry. Just one of this alone creates drama and volume to an empty wall.

These top 5 plants are already in my shopping cart! Here are some corners in the homes I have styled using Tumbleweed Plants and their quirky range of pots.

Remember to keep a strict watering routine and always use room temperature water when watering house plants for good drainage. A clear sign that you are overwatering is when you spot yellow leaves. If you spot leaves turning brown or curling under, it might be getting too much light or it does not have enough water.

Final note: Notice how I chose the colour and design of the pot based on the furniture and home decorations I have used in the home? I pick accent colours from either the furniture or a throw cushion to tie the plants with the home surrounding. I recommend getting the house plants once you have moved in as the plants require your immediate attention. They grow well in a clean and well ventilated environment. Think of houseplants as the finishing touches to complete your home.
