what to do with an empty wall in a bedroom?

Very often when there is an empty space in the room, it ends up being a clutter or storage area where no one respects the space.

My client approached me with the intention to add more storage and to have her own vanity area. Initially, we wanted to create a cozy nook with armchairs and a side table but having storage to keep her bags was her priority. We got down to sourcing a few dresser cabinet and found this gorgeous piece with drawers. With 5 simple steps, we transformed this previously empty corner into one that is purposeful and gorgeous all at the same time.

Here are 5 simple ways we did to transform this empty wall situation in the master bedroom.

  1. Adding texture by using a wallpaper with a darker tone draws the eyes into the empty nook. By pasting the wallpaper over the uneven beams, it helps hide the imperfection on the walls.

  2. We found a dresser that doubles as storage and a vanity. It is spacious to keep all my clients bags and her collection of jewellery and skincare products. Storage solutions are key if you want to decorate a space without clutter.

  3. A new light source was created using a table lamp to add more ambience lighting in the bedroom or when is doing her makeup.

  4. Creating zones in the styling vignette helps you create negative spaces between the decorative items and make the dresser look chic and organised.

  5. Playing with height and textures is key to allow your eyes to wander and to find interest in the space. Different colours in the same colour story is one way to create a cohesive yet unique styled grouping.
